Erisseri- raw banana &yam
This has been my only all time favourite dish from Kerala since childhood. The typical thing about erisseri is you season it with fried coconut which gives it a typical irresistible flavour. It is part of any sadya, a traditional kerala meal.
Raw banana-1, cut with skin in small pieces
salt , pepper,a pinch of turmeric
To be ground- half coconut, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 4 green chillis, water
seasoning-oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, whole red chillis, dessicated coconut-4tbsp
1. Cook yam and raw banana with salt, pepper and turmeric in a saucepan or pressure cooker with little water .
2. When it is done add the ground coconut paste to it and let it cook together for 10-15 min on simmer.
3. In oil, preferably coconut oil, add mustard seeds, whole red chillis, curry leaves. when it splutters ,add dessicated coconut and fry till it turns brown.
Lastly add this to the yam and coconut mixture. Serve hot
